New Iberia – Funeral Services will be conducted for J B Gates, Age 92, at 11:00AM Thursday May 3, 2012 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Fontenot officiating. Interment will follow at Perpetual Park Cemetery in Franklin. Visitation will be Thursday from 8:00AM until service time. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

A native of Edna, Texas and longtime resident of Franklin, Mr. Gates died Saturday April 28, 2012 at 4:08 PM in a New Iberia health care facility.

Mr. Gates retired from Exxon-Mobil after 36 years of service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Gates and companion Maryetta Landry of New Iberia and John Boatner Gates and wife Melissa of Fair Oaks, California; one brother, Darwood Gates of Edna, Texas, grandchildren, Eric Gates of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jeffrey John and fiance' Heather Patty of Franklin, Sara Jane Gates and husband David Lorah of Phillipsburg, New Jersey and a great grandchild, Amber Gates of Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Whitley Gates; parents, Robert Lee and Ruby Parrish Gates; one sister, Connie Gates and a brother, Eugene Gates.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
