Jeanerette – Funeral Services will be conducted for Charles Taylor Pontiff, Age 87, at 11:00AM Wednesday May 9, 2012 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Mausoleum. Visitation will be Wednesday May 9, 2012 from 8:00AM until service time with a Rosary being prayed at 10:00AM. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army.
A native of Franklin and longtime resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Pontiff died Saturday May 5, 2012 at 9:40PM in a local health care facility.
Mr. Pontiff was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He worked for J&L Engineering/Cameco for 40 years as a machine shop supervisor. He enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Pontiff was a quiet, generous and hard working family man.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lester Pontiff of Jeanerette; children, Lorraine Ellzey, Richard “Ricky” Pontiff and wife Robben and Cindy Hebert and husband Shane all of Jeanerette; one brother, Billy Pontiff of Franklin; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Rena Champagne Pontiff and a brother, Lester Pontiff.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
