Our Beginnings

D ennis J. and Cora Viator David are the founders of David Funeral Home. In 1943 they became involved in funeral service when Mr. David began working part-time for Mr. George Berges who owned Berges Funeral Home on St. Peter Street in New Iberia. Berges Funeral Home began its operations in 1937.

1954 - Following the death of Mr. Berges, Mr. & Mrs. David purchased half interest in Berges Funeral Home, forming a partnership with Mrs. Berges.

1961 - Mrs. Berges’ interest was purchased by Mr.& Mrs. David and they became sole owners and operators of Berges Funeral Home.

1962 – Mr. & Mrs. David established David Funeral Home of Youngsville which was Mr. David’s birthplace.

1964 – A new funeral home was built in New Iberia at 1101 Trotter Street and its name changed from Berges Funeral Home to David Funeral Home.

1986 – David Funeral Home of Loreauville was established with a major renovation of the Walet Home across the street from St. Joseph Catholic Church.

1987 – W. L. Landry Funeral Home in Jeanerette was purchased and is now operating as David Funeral Home of Jeanerette.

1993 – David Funeral Home of Broussard was constructed at 316 Youngsville Highway and has since been incorporated into the city limits of Lafayette. It is now known as David Funeral Home of Lafayette serving families in the Broussard, Lafayette and Youngsville area.

1994 – Mr. & Mrs. David retired and relinquished ownership to their sons but remained as Consultants. During this year their sons purchased Jacquemoud Funeral Home, the oldest funeral establishment in New Iberia. Jacquemoud Funeral Home’s name was later changed to David Funeral Home Swan Chapel.

1996 – David Marble & Granite was established to service families in Iberia, Lafayette and Vermilion Parishes.

1997 – Hebert Funeral Home in Abbeville was purchased and later began operating as David Funeral Home of Abbeville.

1998 – Broussard Funeral Home in Erath was purchased and later began operating as David Funeral Home of Erath.

1999 – A new more modern David Funeral Home of Youngsville was built following the acquisition of the Whitney Bank Building. The old location was later sold.

2000 – David Funeral Home of Erath underwent an extensive expansion and remodeling project, thereby providing a more modern facility.

2002 – A new David Funeral Home of Abbeville was built in order to provide families with a new modern facility which offers some of the latest amenities found in funeral service. The old location was later sold.

2004 – Beau Pre’ Memorial Park Cemetery & Mausoleum was purchased and is currently one of the most attractive and well kept cemeteries in our service area.

Our company is currently being directed by three generations of the David Family, Mrs. Dennis David (who still serves as a Consultant after the death of Mr. David on September 2, 2007), Richard G. David, Danny J. David, Sr., Danny J. David, Jr. and Kelly Renee David.
